Dr. Ernie Bailey and Dr. Teri Lear

We, Dr. Ernie Bailey and I, are conducting genetic association studies for a variety of disorders including Contracted Foal Syndrome, Dwarfism in Miniature horses, Lordosis in American Saddlebred horses, and others. I have had numerous requests to study Headshaking Syndrome from owners with affected horses. I found your website and it appears you have collected excellent data on the syndrome. I do know of instances where sire and an offspring were affected. However, from your data do you see any evidence that the syndrome is inherited? If so, we would like to pursue investigating a genetic cause to Headshaking Syndrome.

We now have the genomic tools to carry out such a study using the horse 60,000 SNP chip array. However, we need more samples from affected horses displaying the same phenotype and, if possible, from the same breed.
